Summer Fun.

I've been pretty bad at this blogging thing, I'm not going to lie. Or perhaps the whole President gracing our small city with his presence has been the epoch of the summer. No, that's not it either. Many more amazing things have happened since, just on a different scale.
I got to swim with my nieces on Tuesday night, that was really fun. Believe it or not, this is the first time I've been swimming all summer! Call me vain, but I really don't like pool hair. I'm amazed at how great of a swimmer Jordyn is. I showed her a simple diving technique I learned at her age, and she did it perfectly the first time. Amazing. She dove again and again, completely loving her life. Kamryn was totally content in letting me throw her in the pool as much as I wanted. I love that she's still small enough for me to do things like that. Oh the joys of being Auntie Kelly :) I adore these two.

In so many ways, I feel like the smoke from the fires robbed us of summer. It's tragic on a lot of levels, specifically the loss of 11 firefighters in a weeks time. God be with their families. Also, not being able to see a blue sky for 6 weeks is gonna mess with you. Now that its cleared, I feel like the sky is bluer than it ever has been and the clouds are fluffier. A couple weeks ago, Shelby, Jeff and I wanted to celebrate the beautiful day and drive up to Lassen. It was the kind of day that had no agenda but was absolutely perfect. Thank you Jesus for surrounding us with such beauty! You are glorious! I got to go up again the next weekend with my friend Charlton, which was equally awesome. I feel so blessed to have these people in my life, and that we can enjoy a day of exploring and worshipping in God's creation together.

Isn't it ironic that the first day of summer was the day that summer died? The lightning strikes happened on June 21 - the first day of summer!
It looks like you are taking advantage of some smokeless skies though - good for you!

I agree, Kelly. Summer wasn't really summer this year. We've really been taking advantage of these newly clear days though. Lake trips, pool swims, camping, evening walks. It's like I want to get a whole summer in in like a couple weeks. I'm glad that you got to go up to Lassen twice. Bobby is up there right now with some buddies on a camping trip!

I'm sorry I'm not there to enjoy the summer with you, but I don't miss the smoke. I thought I was going to pass out just during those first few days! Looks like you guys are having a blast, but guess what, sweater weather's a'comin'! P.S. You should blog more often, I like hearing about normal, everyday stuff, makes me feel less homesick. Love ya!
